Why do an engagement session?
The engagement photography session has several purposes. Traditionally these images would have been used to announce the couples engagement in a newspaper. Today, couples use the images for “save the date” cards, wedding websites, for a guest signature book or print to be displayed at the wedding reception. There is however, a more important reason to take engagement photos. Taking engagement photos makes the wedding photos better. Consider it a dry run for photography. Most brides have a trial run with hair and makeup, and you would never consider buying your wedding dress (or suit) with out trying it on. The same holds true for photography, having a chance to be in front of the camera and work with the photographer takes stress off the wedding day. The more comfortable you are in front of the camera the better your wedding photos will be. It is the time I get to know you as a couple, how do you interact with each other and how does the camera see you? Do you have a good side? Is there a mole or freckle on your face that you hate? What makes you smile? As an added benefit you will have a gift for your mom or dad on the next holiday because what parent doesn’t love a photo of their favorite child.
Most couples schedule engagement photography as part of a wedding package because it offers the greatest value but a wedding isn’t required. An engagement session can be done with or without a wedding contract.
