Being a wedding photographer, repeat business isn’t always a good thing (at least if it is the same couple). I have an emotional investment in every wedding I photograph so nothing makes me sadder than to see a couple split up. One type of repeat client I love, love, love is the family repeat. I have been privileged to have had many weddings within the same families. This was the case with a family that Kate and I loved from the first meeting. Having been part of the 2008 wedding of Chris & Susana, I was very excited to reunite with the family for the 2011 wedding of Andrew & Courtney (Chris’ sister). The wedding was at a magnificent location in La Quinta, the bride was stunning and the groom remained handsome despite the desert heat and a black tux). As an added bonus I ran into a groom from 2007 at the Hotel and was able to reconnect. I had a wonderful time seeing everyone again and in a few years when Becky, the beautiful younger sister meets that special guy, I look forward to the 3rd edition of the Dryden weddings.

To say that Brent and Erin love Penn State would be an insult to the depth of emotion this couple shares for their alma mater. The funny thing is that they didn’t meet in collage, rather through a mutual friend and an alumni association. So it is safe to say, their love of Penn State was really the foundation for their love for each other. (LET’S GO STATE!)

After a stroll on the beach we decided to cut in on a volleyball game, in true competitive athletic fashion Brent and Erin were not only up for the challenge but excited a perfect set and spike the first time they got the ball. Sure, anyone can bring game in shorts or a swimsuit but i challenge you to do it in a tux or wedding dress.

Let’s be honest, if it weren’t for Gary, Breck and Joe may have continued to just date each other indefinitely. It had to be the pressure of the dog park that finally tipped the scale in favor of matrimony (just kidding). This intimate summer wedding, bayside at the Hilton was both sassy and elegant in its simplicity. From Breck’s knee length wedding dress to the splash of color in the bridal party attire, small details made a large impact. And yes, Gary did get to walk down the isle in his doggie tuxedo.

Towards sunset we headed out to the Petco Park bridge, the Padre / Giants game was just wrapping up…

before we knew it we were surrounded by Giants fans, loud but friendly folks.

I really don’t know how the East coast photographers work, I guess they have to be up early for sunrise. Being on the West coast I feel like we have a far better option since our sunset is over the beach and beautiful. Sure the middle of the country gets great sunsets with storm clouds and such (so long as you don’t mind the tornados) but to borrow the sentiment of Coolio “ain’t no party like a west coast party”.
