Each year I like to schedule at least one “out of area” photo trip. Booking sessions in new locations I travel to makes business sense but more than that, it makes artistic sense. There is something exciting about discovering a new city or location. Knowing I will want to explore interesting areas, destination clients must be ready to commit to longer sessions and outfit changes. Sure, we will do all the photos you want but when we are done, plan on being a model for my whimsical photo adventures. Junk yards, abandoned buildings and industrial locations are some of my favorite places to photograph. That seems fair, some for you and some for me. If you are up for the adventure it usually takes only 3 or 4 people booking sessions to motivate me to travel to your town. Here are a few from a Senior session in Oklahoma… see if you can guess which ones were for my portfolio.

This past fall I had the pleasure of photographing the Faith Center Church – Associate / Youth Pastors Manny & Cami. Manny is fun and energetic, Cami is off the chart with energy. I haven’t had the pleasure of hearing them lead a service but I am sure it would be dynamic. Check them out in person if you are in the Sulphur Oklahoma area, I am certain it will be time well spent.

I really don’t know how the East coast photographers work, I guess they have to be up early for sunrise. Being on the West coast I feel like we have a far better option since our sunset is over the beach and beautiful. Sure the middle of the country gets great sunsets with storm clouds and such (so long as you don’t mind the tornados) but to borrow the sentiment of Coolio “ain’t no party like a west coast party”.

One of my favorite commercial clients has given me an incredible opportunity to both travel all over the the state of California and to meet extraordinary people. The Freemason organization easily dates back to the 1700s, and in that time many great men have been part of it’s ranks, from presidents to captains of industry. One thing I can personally vouch for is all the people I have meet in the four year I have been creating images for the Masons of California have been interesting, motivated, spiritual and show an empathy and desire to help others. I was amazed by the programs to help disadvantaged youth, veterans, and elderly members and spouses. The generosity these members show is really quite refreshing, I cant count how many invitations I have received to sit down to a dinner or lunch. I have had the pleasure to talk with and photograph a WWII metal of honor veteran, the founder of Williams & Sonoma, the inventor of the medical respirator (and the worlds oldest living still flying helicopter pilot), musicians, artists and all manner of business professionals and scholars. I have visited the oldest lodge in california (built in 1854) and I photographed many things of historical significance. As with anything as old as Masonic tradition, the very history of America is woven into the stories and archives in the care on the Freemasons. Here are a few of my favorite portraits and images from the past four years.
