My favorite part about photographing weddings is that I get to be involved with a very special time in a families growing family tree. From the dating phase through the wedding, then often maternity and babies. Each photo session is another branch in the tree. Here are a few from one of my favorite family trees, the Croff family 2007-2012.

I really don’t know how the East coast photographers work, I guess they have to be up early for sunrise. Being on the West coast I feel like we have a far better option since our sunset is over the beach and beautiful. Sure the middle of the country gets great sunsets with storm clouds and such (so long as you don’t mind the tornados) but to borrow the sentiment of Coolio “ain’t no party like a west coast party”.

Sometimes when a couple contracts for a wedding they don’t immediately see the value of doing an engagement session. Sometimes the opposition is budget, time or just an incorrect idea the an engagement session consists of jeans and white shirts on the beach (my least favorite look BTW). In most cases when I explain that the engagement session is our chance to work together with out the stresses of the wedding day (and that it will take care on at least the next gift or two for mom), most couple agree. Recently with Brent & Erin I had to do quite a bit of talking before they reluctantly agreed. However, as time passed leading up to the session the ideas began to flow, Brent was getting more and more excited. Nearly 18 emails later, the true scope of “the session can be whatever you want” was taking shape. Brent and Erin had taken the ball and run with it, developing a look complete with vintage clothing and a painstakingly grown 70′s mustache. The hour session grew into two and a half hours, but the imagery was well worth the time invested by all. Here are a few favorites.

Chef PJ and his lovely Finnessa, this engagement session took us from the kitchen to the sliver strand and the ferry landing. Hard to tell from the photos but it was an uncommonly cold day at the beach, good thing they had their love to keep them warm.

In an effort to protect the innocent, here are a few engagement photos from “John” and “Jane’s” engagement session… no charges were filed and no one went to jail.
